Natadola is famous for having the best sand and water on the island, but when the wind picks up, the ocean can get pretty rough. At Yatule, we want you to have the best time possible, but we also want you to be smart about the conditions. Tropical weather can change in minutes, so being a little prepared goes a long way in making sure your holiday stays relaxing.
The bay at Natadola can look calm, but high winds can create strong “rips” or currents that you might not see from the shore. We always have flags out on the beach, if you see a red one, please stay on the sand. If you aren’t sure, just ask one of our team members. We’d much rather you ask a “silly” question than get into trouble in the water.
Instead of relying on general world weather sites, we suggest downloading the Fiji Met Service app. It’s what we use, and it’s much more accurate for our specific area. It gives you real-time updates and satellite maps so you can see exactly when a rain cloud is heading our way and plan your pool time accordingly.
It’s a good habit to keep a small bag ready with your essentials. Throw in your phone chargers, any medications you need daily, and maybe a small flashlight. If the power cuts out for a few minutes while the generator starts up, you won’t be fumbling around in the dark looking for your things.
If the main grid goes down during a storm, don’t worry. Yatule has a full backup power system. We make sure the common areas and your rooms stay lit so you can keep reading your book or enjoying a drink. We also keep extra supplies of food and water on hand so our service doesn’t skip a beat.
We don’t like to leave our guests guessing. If there is a tropical depression or a big storm coming, we’ll put up notices in the lobby and talk to guests during breakfast. We want you to feel informed, not worried. Knowing what’s coming helps everyone stay calm and just enjoy the cozy side of a tropical rainstorm.
As long as there’s no lightning or heavy wind, a swim in the rain is actually pretty nice, the water is still warm!
We do our best to keep it running, but sometimes the heavy clouds can make the satellite signal a bit patchy for a few minutes.
It’s fine for showering, but we always suggest using the bottled water we provide for drinking during heavy rain periods.
We post a “Bula Board” in the lobby every morning with all the timings for the day’s activities.
If there’s lightning, they will close the course immediately. We can give them a quick call to check before you head over.
